Glenroe Makes Waves With Clariant’s Splash

Glenroe Technologies, Bradenton, FL, has created an injection molded orthodontic case that’s giving kids with braces something to smile about.

Using Clariant’s Splash, a special effect masterbatch formula, Glenroe has developed a polypropylene resin case with the look of bright red, green, blue and yellow confetti scattered throughout. The case, which holds the patient’s retainer, became available in September 2001 and its sales have taken off, according to John Bozman Sr., president of Glenroe.

Splash is a proprietary Clariant Masterbatch formulation technology that can create effects with an assortment of looks, including marble, wood or tortoise shell in a variety of base resins with no two parts ever looking exactly the same.

Air-Spray’s Foamer Isn’t Just for Soap Anymore
technology is finding a home in personal care categories beside soap. Recent product introductions from Gerber, Playtex and Johnson & Johnson are making good use of Airpsray’s foaming systems, which provide dripless foam with one-hand dispensing.

Playtex chose the instant-foamer for its Baby Magic products, including Foaming Hair and Body Wash, and Foaming Shampoo. Gerber’s Baby Mousse Foaming Wash for Hair and Body also features the dispensing system. Johnson & Johnson’s Band-Aid Antiseptic Foam for cuts and scrapes utilizes the Airspray Mini-Foamer with a 75 ml bottle.

Dove Repackages Nutrium Body Wash
Dove is reintroducing its Nutrium Body Wash in a single chamber container. The new package, which replaces a dual chamber container, was needed when the formula was changed.

The original Nutrium formula was packaged in a dual chamber container in order to keep the moisturizing cleanser separate from the body lotion before use. The new formula is said to provide the same benefits as the original product using special nutrient beads, which are suspended in the cleansing lotion.

Mandara: Retro with Modern Flair
Las Angeles-based perfumer Randi Cohen began creating Mandara in 1999 after years of researching the history and composition of perfume making. Cohen named the fragrance line Mandara (Hindi for Mystic Flower) in recognition of the magical as well as sensory qualities of fine fragrance.

Mandara now consists of three fragrances: Silver is a modern blend of amber and honeysuckle; Green contains notes of fresh cut grass and ivy combined with white musk and Rose is a fullbodied floral made up of jasmine and magnolia with hints of bitter orange and lotus.

Cohen chose all the packaging components with an eye to creating a retro look from the 1940s with a modern flair. All three scents are packaged in the same bottle, a squared-off style manufactured by Pochet of America. The cap is supplied by Le Gift/Codiplas. The cartons are black and silver hat boxes for a special, gift-like effect that is sleek and simple.

Agent Provocateur Parfum Sets Out to Bewitch the Senses
From cloaking the bottle in a mysterious black box equipped with a tantalizing slot for a peek, to a container that blends sensory and practical features, Agent Provocateur has gone outside the ordinary to package its first fragrance. Agent Provocateur Parfum, winner of the 2001 FiFi award for Best New Fragrance with Limited Distribution in the U.K., was introduced to the U.S. market in December 2001.

The fragrance bottle is an egg-shaped porcelain container that keeps the perfume cool and prevents degeneration by light. Other Agent Provocateur (AP) personal care products from the London-based lingerie company include: AP Sauce Glamour, packaged in a shatter-resistant plastic bottle that is also shaped like an egg; Hanky Pankies, a black cube of lightly-fragranced pink tissues; fragranced candles—Strip Candle and Tease Candle.
